Interweave
Interweave is a display cabinet designed for living rooms and lobbies. The cabinet is composed of intersecting wooden strips set at different angles, forming a grid that acts as a semi-transparent barrier. Two woods are used, walnut and beech hardwood, so the crossing lines differ in color and add a sense of depth. Traditional mortise and tenon joints connect every strip, leaving a smooth surface without pegs or screws. Items placed inside can be glimpsed through the grid, creating a discreet display method. The cabinet measures 1450 by 700 by 500 millimeters.
Interweave Cabinet by Yu-Ching Chen was featured as an exceptional example of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Interweave Cabinet earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2024. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design competition that recognizes excellent design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
