Mountains
Mountains is a writing desk and chair set made of elm wood. The form draws on the traditional Chinese recessed-leg table with everted flanges. The raised ends of the desktop reduce the chance of items falling during writing or painting. The front edge has a slight slope that supports a comfortable working posture. A compartment is placed under the desk for storage. The curved back of the chair recalls the mountain shapes of Chinese landscape painting, and a cushion is added to the seat. The desktop is hand spliced, while other parts are shaped by computer controlled milling.
Mountains Writing Desk by Wei Jingye / 魏靖野 was highlighted as a creative representation of industrial design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Mountains Writing Desk earned the Iron A' Design Award in Furniture Design in 2022. The A' Furniture Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design prize that honors superior design of chairs, tables, sofas, beds, cabinets, shelves, desks, wardrobes and more.
